Import

There are several different ways to add models to your D5 project.

Direct Import

D5 Render can load these file formats directly: .skp / .fbx / .d5a / 3dm / .abc.

Start a New Project from the Welcome Page, or click on the "Import" button in the navigation bar, select the file you want to import in the folder. You can select multiple model files to import at the same time.

You can also import models and create projects directly by selecting "Open" from the Welcome page.  If the model contains a camera or scene tab, this information is imported together and added to the D5 scene list.

The imported model will be automatically added to the list of imported models, click on it and wait for it to finish loading, then you can put it into the scene and use it.

.abc dynamic format, only supports importing from the navigation bar, does not support opening from the Welcome Page.

Assets Model

Click the Assets button to open the D5 Asset Library, which contains materials, interior and exterior models, and particles, which can be added directly to the scene after download.

Sync from Plugin

After downloading and installing the plugin, sync the model directly from the modeling software to D5 Render.

Edit

Scene Tools

The scene tools are located in the upper left corner of the scene viewport and are divided into two categories: model tools and material tools.

Model tool

When a light source or model is selected, you can use "Move and Rotate" to adjust the position and rotation angle. Use "Scale" to resize the object.

Material tool

"Material Picker" is used to select the material on the model, "Material Brush" can copy the currently selected material and apply it to other models.

You can use the "Move and Rotate" Tool to change the coordinates and rotation angle of the model in the scene by selecting it directly with the mouse in the non-locked state. The default position of the coordinate axis is the center of the bottom of the model.

In the scene, drag the arrows on the axes with the mouse to move the model in a single X / Y / Z direction. Drag between any two arrows to move the model in the XY / YZ / ZX plane.

Click on the half-circle on the coordinate axis to rotate the model. Click on the square in the center of the axis and drag to move the model freely to any position in the scene.

In the scene, drag the arrows on the axes with the mouse to move the model in a single X / Y / Z direction. Drag between any two arrows to move the model in the XY / YZ / ZX plane.

Hold down the shortcut key Shift and drag the axes to copy the model or light source in the direction of the arrow.

Select the "Scale" tool (shortcut V to toggle) and drag any of the axes to change the size of the model. Using the lock function of the "Size" parameter in the right sidebar, adjustments can be made simultaneously or in only one direction.

To edit the material of the model, use the "Material Picker" tool and click the material you want to edit in the scene. You can also lock the model first and then click on the model material to bring up the material editing panel.

Action

After selecting the model, you can see the parameters related to the model in the "Inspector". These include: position, rotation, size, etc.

When an unlocked model is selected, the relevant parameters are displayed on the right for adjustment.

Duplicate

When you click "Duplicate", an identical model will be created at the cursor and will follow the mouse movement.

When using the shortcut Ctrl+D to duplicate, materials are associated with each other by default. That is, if you adjust the material on any model, the other model will follow the change. If you want to duplicate without association, you can use Alt+D to duplicate.

Make Unique

If you need to unassociate a material from a model that was created by a duplicate operation, click on "Make Unique" to unassociate it.

Flip

The "Flip" function mirrors the model along the red axis (X axis).

Focus on

Select the object and move the camera to the front of the object so that the object is fully displayed in the main view.

Align

For model files imported in parts, after multi-selecting models (hold Ctrl to multi-select), using the "Align" function, the selected models will be aligned according to the original modeling axes, keeping the relative position of the coordinates in the modeling software unchanged.

When aligning, the first selected model is used as the reference and its position remains unchanged, and the other models are aligned to the first model.

For example, if there are three models A, B and C, and the selected order is B, C and A, then B remains in the same position when aligning, and C and A models are aligned to B with the original modeling coordinates.

Sync coordinates

For imported models, when clicked "Sync Coordinates", the model will move to the location of the coordinates from modeling software. The Align button is to multi-select models then align them according to their relative position, while the "Sync Coordinates" function is to recover their absolute positions( X, Y, Z).

After clicking the "Replace from Assets" button, select a model from the Asset library to replace the selected model in the current scene.

Replace from Assets

After clicking the "Replace from Assets" button, select a model from the Asset library to replace the selected model in the current scene.

Replace from Local Folder

After clicking the "Replace from Local Folder" button, select a model file from the local folder to replace the model in the current scene.

Reload

After the model source file is modified and saved, click Reload and D5 will automatically synchronize the model to the latest, consistent with the source file.

You can continue to operate in the scene while the model is reloading. The progress of the update is displayed in the resource list on the left; when reload is complete, a finish mark will displayed in the list.

1. Changes in the model file name or location will cause the reload to fail, try to re-import or replace the model;
2. Reloaded and replaced models do not support Undo/Redo, please confirm before proceeding.

Export and Add to local

For models that have been imported into D5, click "Add to Local" to save the adjusted model to "Assets" -> "Local" for easy reuse in other projects. You can also choose to export the model as .d5a format and save it locally.

Export and Add to Local functions are also supported for grouped models.
